Bev Jackson helped found the UK Gay Liberation Front in 1970 and co-founded LGB Alliance in 2019. Bev Jackson was one of the founders of the UK Gay Liberation Front in 1970, a grassroots movement that challenged the criminalisation and pathologisation of homosexuality at a moment when it was still widely treated as a mental disorder. Over the following decades she remained active in lesbian and gay politics, watching as the broader LGBT movement evolved — and, in her view, lost its way.
In 2019 she co-founded LGB Alliance, an organisation that argues same-sex attraction is grounded in biological sex rather than gender identity, and that conflating the two actively harms gay and lesbian people — particularly young people who might otherwise be affirmed in their same-sex sexuality.
