Stella O'Malley records Beyond Gender from County Offaly. Her guests have included Irish academics, Irish journalists, Irish clinicians and Irish parents, and even the episodes with American or British guests keep returning to the same questions: what the HSE is doing, what Irish schools are teaching, what the Oireachtas is likely to legislate next. This site gathers those threads for an Irish audience.

Why Ireland matters in this story

Ireland passed one of Europe's most permissive gender recognition laws in 2015 and has since become a case study in what happens next: a National Gender Service at odds with its own referring clinicians, a schools sector without clear guidance, and a political class reluctant to revisit the settlement. Beyond Gender has been one of the few Irish platforms willing to discuss any of that at length.
